Does your company have a social media policy to protect your business? Do you know what you would do if one of your employees posted something derogatory about you or your business on their Facebook page? Do you know what you would do if your business was slagged-off on Twitter by one of you employees?
A recent Employment Appeals Tribunal found in favour of the employer after one of their employees posted derogatory comments about his supervisors which were graphic and inflammatory. He also claimed he had been drinking while on call. The company dismissed him for gross misconduct and the employee took the company to an employment tribunal.
The EAT found in favour of the business due to the fact that they had a solid social media policy. Therefore it is vital that every company has such a policy to protect their business and that their employees know and understand the implications if it is breached.
